Learning to read can be challenging for some kids! The Flying Colours Learn to Read program teaches reading the right way; through the explicit teaching of phonics and how to use them to sound out words. In each session we provide our students with a new tool to add to their tool box that they can use to  improve their reading. As their tool box gets bigger, so does their phonics knowledge, self confidence and reading ability. This program is designed for students who are struggling to meet grade outcomes in reading. 

Spelling is a tough skill to master. Doing Look Say Cover Write Check and spelling 20 words at the end of the week IS NOT learning to spell, it’s learning to recite 20 words. REALLY being able to spell is about correctly spelling words and applying them during writing tasks. In each session we provide our students with a new tool to add to their tool box that they can use to  improve their spelling. This program is ideal for those students who are great at reading but have trouble learning and remembering spelling strategies.

Being able to read is one thing but understanding what you’re reading is  a whole new ball game! The Flying Colours Comprehension Program focusses on the many elements of reading comprehension needed to be able to understand and enjoy reading.  In each session we provide our students with a new tool to add to their tool box that they can use to  improve their comprehension. This program is ideal for those students who are fluent readers but find comprehension challenging.
