High School Programs
At Flying Colours Education our High School programs are designed to build self confidence in our older students. We keep our group numbers low and our learning environment inclusive and nurturing to ensure our high school students feel unthreatened and in turn, confident to ask the questions they were too embarrassed to ask in class. Like all programs throughout the Flying Colours curriculum, our high school Maths and English programs are designed with evidence based principles in mind so you can be sure that what we do works!
Flying Colours offers Learning Support and Therapy – not tutoring.
Unlike tutoring, we use evidence-based strategies that have been proven to improve self -confidence and learning outcomes. We target specific needs and gaps in children’s learning with a personalised and explicit program. Our staff have Bachelor degrees (or higher) as well as specialist training in a variety of evidence based programs and practices.
We work with students and their families to offer support for additional needs – be it learning, developmental or other.
Our therapy sessions have a strong focus on multi-sensory learning for both maths and English. We are committed to assisting your child reach their full potential and we keep our group sizes low.
At Flying Colours we recognise that each child learns differently. That is why our teaching staff utilise a range of proven teaching and learning strategies to help your child. During each session, your child will discover their learning style and as a result become motivated learners and build their confidence.
There are many benefits for our students when learning in small groups. Research suggests enormous advantages for students’ self esteem and mental well being as well as relationship building and communication skills when working with each other in small groups. Quite often when our high students see other kids are having trouble like them, their aversion to learning decreases and they are more open to accepting help.
At Flying Colours we make learning fun and our high school programs are no different. We always make room for playing an educational game or activity based on the topic being taught because no one is ever too old to have a bit of fun!
HIGH SCHOOL MATHS
Our high school maths programs are designed for those students needing that extra bit of help to improve their self confidence as well as their marks.
For some students, the need to see and work with maths doesn’t stop at the end of primary school. They need to understand how and why maths works by doing before they can get to applying it. This is why the Flying Colours High School Maths Curriculum uses a hands-on approach to teaching high school maths concepts.
The inability to recall number facts quickly and efficiently can cost precious time during assessments. Our high school maths sessions combat this by containing a focus on times tables and mental maths strategies in every session.
Our high school maths groups are stage based so we can thoroughly and efficiently cover the concepts covered in each stage.
HIGH SCHOOL ENGLISH
Our high school English programs are based on the many elements needed to survive high school English.
Navigating High School English can be a minefield as expectations to write well within a time limit become more demanding than they were in primary school.
Constructing paragraphs correctly, writing essays, responding to texts and writing creatively are all required right through to year 12 and it’s important to get them right from the very beginning.
Our high school english programs contain the Flying Colours hands on approach to help our students understand and apply the strategies taught.
Writing is like following a recipe and our High School English programs are designed to ensure our students have all the ingredients and the correct methods to cook up a storm in their High School English journey!
